Foreign Employment Welfare Fund — Benefits & Claims
Every legal migrant worker pays into the Welfare Fund. Here is what it covers and how families can claim compensation.
वैदेशिक रोजगार कल्याणकारी कोष — सुविधा, क्षतिपूर्ति र दाबी प्रक्रिया।
When you get a DOFE labour permit, you pay into the Foreign Employment Welfare Fund (वैदेशिक रोजगार कल्याणकारी कोष). It protects migrant workers and their families with support in serious situations — a key reason to always go through the legal channel.
Why it matters: workers who go illegally (no labour permit) are NOT covered. Legal workers and their families can claim these benefits.
What the Fund Provides (typical)
- Death compensation to the family if a worker dies abroad, plus support to bring the body home.
- Disability compensation for serious injury.
- Medical / rescue support in certain cases.
- Support for stranded or exploited workers through the embassy and board.
How to Claim
- Gather documents — the worker's labour permit, passport, contract, and the relevant certificate (death certificate, medical/disability report, etc.).
- Apply through the Foreign Employment Board (the body that manages the fund) with the family/nominee details.
- Verification by the board and the Nepali mission in the destination country.
- Receive the compensation as per the scheme rules.
📞 For help, contact the Foreign Employment Board and the helpline 1135. The Nepali embassy in the destination country also assists.
✅ Always keep copies of the worker's labour permit, contract and insurance — they are essential for any claim. See our foreign employment guide.
