SIM Registration in Nepal — New, Lost & MNP
How to get a new SIM, replace a lost one, and keep your number while switching operators (MNP).
नयाँ SIM दर्ता, हराएको SIM फेर्ने र नम्बर नछोडी अपरेटर परिवर्तन (MNP) गर्ने तरिका।
SIM cards in Nepal (from NTC, Ncell and others) must be registered with your citizenship or valid ID and biometrics. Here is how to get a new one, replace a lost SIM, and switch operator while keeping your number.
Getting a New SIM
- Visit an official operator store or authorised dealer.
- Bring your citizenship certificate (or valid ID; for minors a birth certificate and guardian may be needed).
- Provide a photo and fingerprint (biometric) registration.
- Receive and activate your SIM.
Replacing a Lost or Damaged SIM
- Go to an operator store with your citizenship (the SIM must be registered in your name).
- Request a SIM replacement for your existing number.
- Verify identity with biometrics and pay the replacement fee.
- Your old SIM is blocked and a new one issued for the same number.
Tip: A SIM registered in your own name can be re-issued if lost. If a SIM is registered in someone else name, only that person can replace it — always register SIMs in your own name.
Number Transfer (MNP)
Mobile Number Portability (MNP) lets you switch operator (for example NTC to Ncell) while keeping the same number. Visit the operator you want to move to, request MNP with your citizenship, and your number is ported after a short processing period.
✅ Keep your number registered in your own name so you can always replace, port or manage it yourself.
