The Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery — known in Nepal as EDV (Electronic Diversity Visa) — is a US government programme that grants green cards (US permanent residence) to applicants from eligible countries, including Nepal. It runs once a year, usually with registration in October–November.
It is 100% FREE and official. Apply only on the official US government site dvprogram.state.gov. No agent, consultancy or "EDV form fee" is required to enter. Anyone charging to submit the entry is not the government.
Eligibility
- Be from an eligible country (Nepal is currently eligible).
- Have at least a high school (SLC/SEE + equivalent) education, OR two years of qualifying work experience.
- Meet the entry-photo and information requirements exactly.
How to Apply — Step by Step
- Go to the official site dvprogram.state.gov during the open registration period.
- Prepare a compliant photo — recent, correct size and background, meeting the strict DV photo rules (a wrong photo disqualifies the entry).
- Fill the entry form with your name, date of birth, passport details, education and family exactly as per documents.
- Include your spouse and children if applicable — leaving out a family member can disqualify you.
- Submit and SAVE your confirmation number — this is the only way to check results. Keep it safe.
⚠️ Common disqualifiers: wrong photo, misspelled name, missing family members, or applying more than once (duplicate entries are rejected). Double-check everything before submitting.
Checking Results
Results are checked only on the official site using your confirmation number (usually from May the following year). There is no email or letter announcing selection — you must check yourself. If selected, you proceed to the visa application and interview stage.
