No Objection Certificate (NOC) for Studying Abroad
Nepali students need a Ministry of Education NOC to legally send tuition fees abroad and for many student visas. Here is the process.
विदेश अध्ययनका लागि शिक्षा मन्त्रालयबाट अनापत्ति प्रमाणपत्र (NOC) लिने प्रक्रिया र कागजात।
A No Objection Certificate (NOC / अनापत्ति प्रमाणपत्र) from the Ministry of Education (MoE) is required for Nepali students going abroad. It lets you legally transfer tuition fees through banks and is often needed for the student visa and foreign-exchange facility.
Why it matters: Without an MoE NOC, banks cannot legally send your tuition fees abroad, and many embassies expect it as part of a genuine-student file.
Documents Usually Required
- Offer / admission letter from the foreign university or college.
- Academic documents — transcripts, certificates (and often verification).
- Passport copy.
- Citizenship copy.
- Financial documents — proof of funds / bank details as required.
- Language test results (IELTS/TOEFL) where applicable.
The Process
- Secure your admission and get the official offer letter.
- Prepare and verify academic documents from the relevant board/university.
- Apply for the NOC through the Ministry of Education's system (increasingly online).
- Submit financial and personal documents as required.
- Receive the NOC — then use it at your bank to transfer fees and in your visa file.
💡 Your academic certificates and offer letter may need to be consistent in name spelling with your passport. Fix mismatches before applying. For English translation of Nepali documents, see our translation guide.
After the NOC
With the NOC you can legally remit tuition fees through a bank and complete your student-visa application. Keep copies for your visa interview and bank records.
